Farmer Wants a Wife: Matt’s meeting with Olivia’s family throws a ‘spanner in the works’

It was crunch time for Farmers Matt and David on Sunday night's episode of Farmer Wants a Wife, with each farmer meeting the families of their final two ladies.

There were lots of laughs - and some awkward moments - as Matt met Annabelle's family, then Olivia's.

Farmer David had a grilling from Emily's family and seemed to hit it off with Lorelei's.

But after meeting the parents, were either of the farmers any closer to knowing which lady they would choose?

First up, Matt headed to Umina Beach on the NSW Central Coast to meet Annabelle's family.

Mum Nicole said she liked their body language together, while dad Nigel grilled Matt on why he thought he was ready to commit to a long-term relationship at just 23.

"I’m a bit concerned that if Annabelle doesn't get to be the final person, we are going to have to pick up some pieces there," Nigel said.

Meanwhile, David was headed to Brisbane to meet Emily's family, who seemed shocked when she said she would be ready to pack up and move to his farm in Pozieres, Queensland, within a month.

"There was a bit of a silent gasp around the table when she said she was ready to move," David noted later.

Emily's sister Laura said she felt very protective and "worried" about her feelings being hurt.

When Emily said she was falling for David, Laura asked: "How much of that is being swept up in the moment?"

Emily responded: "There is a little part of me that's concerned that if this goes further, what is it going to be like in the real world?

"But this is the first time I’ve told someone how I’m feeling, every step of the way, and I think that's what makes the difference."

In a separate interview, Laura said she was "very nervous" about how things would go.

"There's still another girl in the picture, and this could completely go in a way she's not prepared for, and having a first heartbreak could be really devastating."

Next up, Matt headed to Wollongong to meet Olivia's family - mum Kim, stepdad Chris and older sister Belle.

After Matt mentioned he would be moving to Canberra, Olivia explained that she would try to arrange flexi hours at work so she could spend part of the week in Canberra and part in Wollongong.

"I just don't want you making all the sacrifices," Belle told Olivia.

"I feel like taking turns would be reasonable, because even though it seems quite close, packing your bags every single weekend and driving... a bit of both would be good."

That suggestion seemed to throw Matt a little.

"This does come as a bit of a shock - I thought that (Olivia) was happy to be moving to Canberra," Matt said in a separate interview.

"I feel like it does chuck a bit of a spanner in the works.

"I think if we had to do it long distance, it would put a big strain on the relationship."

Finally, David travelled to Newcastle to meet Lorelei's family.

"I have not brought someone home to meet my family in years, so this is a very big moment for me," Lorelei conceded.

After lunch, Lorelei and her brother Harrison sat down for a chat.

"He's so nice - I can see why you like him," Harrison said.

"He's just a really genuine guy, and you seem really happy - and that makes me happy."

"I’m so happy," Lorelei said.

"You know I’ve been single for a long time and this is the guy I think I’ve been waiting for.

"I’m very much starting to fall for David which is, yeah, very scary."
